Forage Field Day

Forage Field Day is an annual educational event held in the summer.

2026 Multi-State Summer Forage Field Day

Date: August 18

Location: University of Minnesota – West Central Research & Outreach Center (46352 MN-329, Morris, MN 56267 Morris, MN)

Time: 9:00 -9:30 a.m. registration

Program: 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This field day will include a combination of classroom and field demonstrations


Topics include:

· Interseeding alfalfa with other crops - Marisol Berti, North Dakota State University

· Show sorghum processors

· Grazing under Solar panels – Brad Heins, Sabrina Florentino, University of Minnesota

· Virtual Fencing – Brad Heins

· In season manure application on forages – Chryseis Modderman, University of Minnesota

· Discussion on cover crops - Shelby Gruss, Iowa State University

· Controlling alfalfa diseases - Deb Samac, USDA ARS

· Controlling alfalfa pests – Anthony Hanson, University of Minnesota

2025 Forage Field day recap

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in partnership with I-29 Moo University and the Northern Plains Forage Association, hosted producers, agronomists and forage enthusiasts for the 2025 Forage Field Day on July 31 at the Western Research and Demonstration Farm near Castana.  This video features drone footage and clips from the presentations.

    2024 Forage Field Day Online Recap

    A collaboration of the I-29 Moo University (including Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota Extension 

    specialists), plus the Northern Plains Forage Association developed the Forage Field Day and brought together 

    experts, producers, and industry professionals to provide panel discussions and presentations on forage-related 

    topics. The virtual field day was held on August 6.

    Photos from the Forage Field Day held in August near Beresford, SD. South Dakota State University Extension, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, the Northern Plains Forage Association and I-29 Moo University co-hosted the event. The event focused on forage sorghum (a warm-season annual grass), and on forage equipment.
